Write Action To Present Workshop On Contemplative Poetics

Date: Saturday, October 10

Times: 10:00 AM-5:00 PM with a lunch break

Location: Marlboro Graduate Center

Cost: $15 covers a Xerox hand-out

During the morning session, participants will be introduced to a variety of poetic forms and works that exemplify a contemplative view. We will read and examine works from Asian traditions, indigenous peoples, and Western contemporary poets. In the afternoon, we will engage in simple writing exercises to “loosen” the mind from fixed mind to arrive at fresh perceptions as a basis for creative work. Open to both beginners and advanced poets and writers.

Led by Jacqueline Gens, a co-founder of the New England College MFA Program in Poetry where she has been co-director since 2001. For many years she worked at the Naropa Institute and for the late poet Allen Ginsberg studying contemplative poetics. Her chapbook, Primo Pensiero, with a foreword by Anne Waldman, was published in 2008 by Shivastan Press. She is a member of the board of directors for Write Action.
